Green Meadow Farms
Digester Lab

North American BioFuels-GMF, L.L.C. is an affiliate which
owns, operates, and maintains 800 kW cow manure to
methane/electric generating project located at Green
Meadow Farms, in Clinton County, Michigan.
The digester project was conceived, designed, and built by
Michigan State University’s Agriculture Department at Green
Meadow Farms, which supplies the substrate from 3,200
dairy cows to the three 1,000,000 gallon digesters.
The digesters should produce approximately 200 MMBtus of
methane each day.
North American in coordination with Michigan State
University built the electric generating facility and heat
recovery system which provides jacket water and exhaust
temperature to heat the water and manure substrate.
North American installed one Caterpillar 3516 engine
generator which will produce 800 kW at 480 volts on a
continuous basis. The project should produce approximately
6,500,000 kWh annually.
The project is supported by The Detroit Edison Company
which purchases the renewable energy credits from North
American.
